ABOUT THE ARTIST CASPAR PHILIPS JACOBSZOON:

Caspar Philips, Jacobsz. (Amsterdam, April 16, 1732 – Amsterdam, March 19, 1789) was a Dutch engraver.

He learned the art of engraving from his uncle Jan Caspar Philips. Throughout his life, he focused on engraving work, mostly in the architectural field, but he was also a mathematician and a certified, officially registered and authorized surveyor of Holland, Zeeland, and West Friesland, and he taught drawing. In 1765, his book "Detailed Instruction in Perspective or Transparency" was published, illustrated with 60 self-engraved plates. His engravings and maps were always of high quality and precision.

Philips lived on Nieuwendijk near Kolksteeg, on Haarlemmerdijk near Dommersstraat, and on Brouwersgracht near Willemsstraat. He was buried at the Karthuizer Cemetery.
